 |

Hi Folks,
I am very new to this forum and I am from Singapore.
After getting 3 pieces of subtropical tillandsia, I tried to google for cultivation info but could not find. I need help as to how to grow these subtropical tillandsia well in hot Singapore at about 34 degrees C during the day all year round.
I have [1] Tillandsia Magnusiana [2] Tillandsia Velickiana and [3] Tillandsia Plagiotropica.
I am now growing them in sheltered bright shaded area in my garden. Day temperature around 34 degree C with 2 small solar fan blowing at them. The location is also very windy with high humidity.
I would bring all of them into my aircondition room to get night cooling.
The next morning at about 6am submerged all of them into icy water for about 5 minutes and hang upside down for the water to drip dry and by 11am the tillandsia are already very dry - I sprayed with water again. I does this every day for about a week now.
I look forward to have someone able to highlight/adv/help me, what I really need to do next inorder for me to grow such beautiful tillandsia in my Hot Singapore country. |

| The species you have will probably not do well in Singapore, all are med to high elevation. Species that do well in Singapore are T. ionantha, concolor, caput-medusae, stricta, capitata to name a few. These are mostly stiff leaf low-elevation types. HEL |

Thanks for you quick reply .
I do understand that those tillandsia are from altitude subtropical habitat. It is a challenge to grow them well in Singapore. So, I am seeking help as to how I should be growing them.
A good example from the highland habitat is Tillandsia Seleriana - this could be grown in our Singapore climate.
Pls adv me should you have ideas as to how these highland tillandsia should be grown - They are most beautiful type of tillandsia.. |

Hi Albert,
I agree with HEL that you just picked the species that may not survive
the heat in Singapore in the long run. BUT:
You should check the forum for a guy named chanin and
get in contact with him.
He is from Bangkok and I suppose that is a climate simular to yours.
Though he is a specialist in rather hot brazilian species,
he might have hints for you.

| I agree with Harry's reply. I have tried species similar to velickiana such as macdougallii, oaxacana, and andrieuxii in our climate and found that the humidity and warm nights rot the plants. As Timm alluded to, Chanin may have something to add. Good luck. |
